Course of the tour
Day 01
| Chilean border - Sajama - La Paz
Pick up from Tambo Quemado (border with Chile at 1 hour from Putre, through the Reserve Lauca), crossing the Bolivian highlands, the Sajama National Park (the highest peak ofo Bolivia at 6,542m). Visiting on the way the colonial church of Curahuara de Carangas, until reaching the city of La Paz. (BL)
Day 02
| Tiahuanaco and city tour
Tiahuanaco is 72 km - 1 ½ hours from La Paz. It is considered the cradle of the American man (1580 BC to 1150 AC). Their main constructions are: the Kalasasaya temple with the Gate of the Sun, the monoliths Ponce and Fraile; the Akapana pyramid and the Semi underground temple. Visit of the two local museums.
In the afternoon a 4 hour tour including the area of the street markets, rich in handicrafts, weavings and witchcraft artifacts. Then the colonial part with San Francisco Church, Gold Museum, Murillo Square,and the Valley of the Moon, with its great formations. (B)
Day 03
| La Paz - Lake Titicaca
Transportation from La Paz to Copacabana (3 hours), a nice town at the shores of Lake Titicaca. Boat to Island of the Sun (1 hour), land near Pilkokaina ruins to have a typical aptapi. Then hike one hour to ecolodge La Estancia. (BLD)
Day 04
| Lake Titicaca - Copacabana - La Paz
DONT MISS THE SUNRISE EARLY IN THE MORNING! Boat north (1 hour) to visit the Chincana ruins and the Sacred Rock, then boat to the Island of the Moon (1 ½ hours) and the Iñak Uyu ruins, continue to Copacabana (1 ½ hour), visit the famous Dark Virgin, its church, lunch and stroll of town. Trip back to La Paz (3 hours). (BL)
Day 05
| La Paz - Oruro - Uyuni
Trip through the highlands from La Paz southwest in bus to Oruro (3 hours), then train south to Uyuni (6-7 hours), crossing a big portion of the highlands. Overnight in hotel. (BL)
Day 06
| Uyuni saltflats - Villazon
Trip to Colchani to see locals producing salt, enter the amazing natural wonder of Uyuni saltflats, crossing it to Isla Incahuasi (2 hours), a special habitat of volcanic rocks and giant cactus. Continue north to visit the mommies of Coquesa in the foothills of the Tunupa volcano, trip back in the saltflats to Uyuni (2 hours). Day use of hotel to take the night train to Villazon, in the border of Argentina, to continue your program next day. (BL)
