Overlanding from La Paz, through the southern highlands, crossing Uyuni saltlake, the high deserts and coloured lagoons, to San Pedro de Atacama in Chile
Course of the tour
Day 01
| La Paz - Oruro - Uyuni
Trip from La Paz in bus to Oruro (3 hours), then train to Uyuni (6-7 hours), crossing a big portion of the highlands. Overnight in hotel.
Day 02
| Visit of Uyuni saltlake
Trip to Colchani, to see locals producing salt, enter the great Uyuni saltflats to Isla Incahuasi (2 hours), a special habitat of volcanic rocks and giant cactus. Continue north to see the mommies of Coquesa and then west to Tahua (2 hours), a village in the foothills of the Tunupa volcano. Enjoy the sunset, overnight in hotel. (BLD)
Day 03
| Tahua - Southern highlands - Villamar
Morning trip crossing the saltflats towards south, leaving it in Chuvica, to enter the highlands and small branches of the range. Pass the villages of San Juan, San Agustín until the rich high valley of Alota (5 hours), continue south with great stone formations done by the erosion, to finally reach Villamar (1 hour). Overnight in hotel. (BLD)
Day 04
| Reserve Eduardo Abaroa - San Pedro in Chile
Early departures to la REA reserve, visiting Laguna Colorada (4,278 m 2 hours), geysers Sol de Mañana, Chalviri lagoon and its natural hot springs of Polques. Continue through the nice Pampas de Dali until Laguna Verde (3 hours), a beautiful green lagoon at the foothills of the Licancabur Mountain; cross the border to Chile in Hito Cajon (continue down to San Pedro de Atacama 1 hour).
